Recycling water for hockey pitches

Domo Sports Grass has developed a revolutionary system for recycling rain and sprinkling system water. When watering the pitch, a large amount of this water is lost through the base. Rain water is also completely lost in this manner.

Thanks to the new, patented Domo Aqua Recytec, all the sprinkler system and rain water that is lost through the base is caught. This will significantly reduce the water bill. Aqua Recytec very rapidly drains the water via an ingenious system of small pipes. The recovered water can be stored in tanks and is ready to be reused. Moreover, frost no longer has any influence because the base is always dry. This means that a base that is 50 to 60 cm deep is no longer necessary and can be replaced by 15 to 20 cm formwork, on condition that soil resistance is sufficient.

The FIH standard requires 3 mm of water ballast for a water-based field hockey pitch. For a playing surface of approximately 6,000 m², there are therefore 18 m³ of water required per half game, or 36 m³ for a full match. Because part of the water from the first half is still on the playing surface, it is not always necessary to spray an extra 18 m³. Based on a water usage of approximately 26 m³ per match, this results in 130 m³ of water consumed per day. Since water costs can easily reach EUR 2.50/m³(*), this results in a bill of EUR 325 per match day. So recuperating 100% of the water that drains away yields a significant saving.
